Eurogamer Expo

For those interested in video games, this is a must see event! It takes place at Old Billingsgate, London on the 30th and 31st October and at Saviles Royal Armouries Square in Leeds on the 27th and 28th October. The Eurogamer Expo has always been seen as a popular feature of the London Games Festival. It brings you (the potential buyer) the chance to see Christmas releases before hand, with work from EA, SEGA, Konami and many more included. The tickets only cost £6 per day- a bargain if you ask me, so book in advance before the event sells out! That way you’ll have something to look forward to once summer is over and the rain begins again.

The King of Kong

Ken Burns has put together an amazing 90 minute documentary that will seriously be enjoyed by anyone, but if you are a computer game fan, its AN ABSOLUTE MUST!

The King of Kong, is a documentary about bragging rights among video game geeks. Its about the earlier days of video gaming, nostalgic, humorous and utterly compelling.

The story in a nutshell: Back in the mid-80s, a video game mega-guru named Billy Mitchell set the all-time world record for Donkey Kong. (Donkey Kong, you'll remember, is the game in which Mario made his debut while trying to rescue the princess from a grumpy giant ape.) Mitchell's record remained uncontested until 2006, which is when a mild-mannered family man called Steve Weibe broke the all-time high -- but when he submitted his score to the "official" gaming commission, it was denied because Steve racked up all his points on a home-based machine. Apparently the only way to truly claim the record is to play the Donkey Kong machine that's inside a specific Funland location. But that didn't stop Mitchell from submitting his own video-taped record -- and that score WAS accepted as yet another new world's record.

Suffice to say it's a long and winding road to the title of Kong King, and director Seth Gorden captures all the whole damn story in all its geeky glory. True that the flick paints Mitchell as an arrogant lout while Wiebe is portrayed as a sensitive little sweetheart, but both of the guys' legitimate personalities seem to burst through at every opportunity. Wiebe is a sad-sack nice-guy who's had a bunch of financial problems, while Mitchell's a cocksure and self-adoring entrepreneur who basically refuses to acknowledge his challenger's existence! Throw in a handful of video game experts and a few insights from the long-suffering spouses, and you've got a human interest story that's just too delicious to ignore.

If you loved the 80’s computer game vibe from our t-shirts, you will love love love this movie.

Alice in Wonderland

I was shocked (and a little scared) to see the photos of Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, out March next year). Not quite Jack Sparrow anymore… And with characters like the Queen of Hearts (Helena Bonham Carter) and the two Tweedles (Matt Lucas), I’m counting down the days to see Tim Burton’s twisted alteration of the classic tale.

A seriously bad hangover...

The Hangover comes across as a shameful, offensive and crass comedy promising absolutely nothing to a cinema audience. The former is all true but it is also utterly hilarious and strangely gripping. It has been described as “the perfect bad-lad comedy if you don’t mind misogyny”. It tells the story of a groom-to-be, three of his best mates and his soon to be brother in law who take a weekend trip to Las Vegas for a bachelor party just before the wedding day.

The guys wake up to a wrecked hotel suite with no recollection of the night before. There’s a baby in the kitchen, a tiger in the bathroom, a wandering chicken and the groom is nowhere to be seen. They then attempt to piece together what happened over the preceding twelve hours, find the groom and get to the wedding on time. A lot of laughs and a plot that keeps you watching. Well worth the price of a cinema ticket!

Junkies tees in Saints Row 2

Well after about a year of working towards it the designs we did for the Saints Row 2 have finally gone live in their first big download pack. Check out all the details here

We've been selling the hoodie and Stilwater Saints t-shirts designs since the game came out - there was a nice advert for them on the back cover of the game manual. It was a great tie-in with Joystick Junkies - we got them stocked in a bunch of fashion stores across Europe and did a lot of promotion with the fashion press together.

The hoodie has been a great seller and we'll be re-producing it for Christmas in a nice Saints Row purple too!

Look mum its snowing!

I suppose we should be glad it's snowing at the rate global warming is going. Back in london and wondering if it will last long enough for a spin on primrose hill on a metal tray - the toboggan of choice for true afficianados - of course being one of maybe only two or three decent slopes in london it will be so mobbed you'll be bumping in to 5 year olds and their safety parents.

Ghetto style

Think I found the inspiration for one of our new t-shirts. Sorted out wad magazine party for tonight which a load of us brits will go to. I've found some great accessories for our next shoot too so its been a good day so far.

Free champagne comes in all sizes

Apparently its free drinks on stand a17 at 5pm tells me two girls in stilted english (yep shame on me I haven't resurrected my school level english yet). The bizarre umbrellas must be to shield them from the fountains of cool pouring off the stands they visit...ahem. I realise now why it was so important to learn phrases like le chat et sur la table because of course you often come across that here in a trade show. Sod this I'm off for a drink!

Hot Rock

Usually the domain of rock labels we did the funky pirate skull design last season and this new one is a hit at the show!
------------------

Button Mashers

The lads on the stand across from us have got a mini basketball court and these ol school machines - gotta love the neo-geo!
------------------

Who's Next - day one!

Okay just got here - rick set up the stand yesterday and already we've had some great retailers on. Tired still though was a 5am start this morning and suspect I was snoring on the eurostar! I shall have to resurrect my cool by bringing you some fabulous images of stuff here. Laters

Paris here we come

I'm going on friday to Who's Next. Of course on arrival I'll be checking out what parties will be on and my friends Tissem and Christine who live in Paris are planning a big night out on the saturday
------------------

That pile of boxes

And that's only samples from one factory! I'm going to have to bring climbing gear into the office just to get to my desk at this rate...
------------------

Paris darling, shoots and webby stuff

I'm (Chris) off to Paris with Rick next week - not the glamorous fashion week but for the rather funkier Who's Next fashion trade show - everyone has stands and shows off their new gear. We'll have some of the current stock on show including best sellers like Pirate Skull and of course the samples from the Winter 09 range. That's if they bloody get here in time. A bunch have arrived already (that's why my desk is surrounded in piles of boxes again) but of course typically the factories always have some problem that they decide not to let you know about until the last minute...sigh...

I'm trying to add the flickr gallery but it keeps showing pictures of fluffy cats and landscapes and not our account pics. I think i'll end up spending my life uploading photos to different sites. Web 2.0 (or is it web 2.0 'service shall be resumed shorly'). We all know what plug and play means, but try and interfeed every site you have? haha, when it works it's like bloody magic and when it doesn't your sitting there scratching your head thinking it's time for your 3rd cup of tea and sod it I've got better things to do

The point of it is, the gallery on flickr - joystickjunkieslondon , has got all the latest photoshoot so it'd be darn convenient to be able to have them sitting their happily on the side bar. Ah well that's tomorrow's problem

Next up Ansa, Cindy, Rick and Lee - I'll introduce them all and maybe some pics of what we get up to.

Oh we're on sale at the moment - there's some tees as low as £9.99 and hoodies and jackets in the twentysomething quid mark so check 'em out here JoystickJunkies.com
